Interim Children's worker

Who we are:
St James’ is an evangelical, lively and multi-cultural Anglican church set in our local community of Furzedown, which is located between Streatham and Tooting in SW London. We work closely with two other churches – St Alban’s and St Paul’s – a
s part of our Furzedown Team Ministry, as well as our neighbouring Mitcham Lane Baptist Church. The church runs many activities for the community during the week, including a community café, toddler group, after school clubs, a youth centre (jointly with the other Furzedown churches) and holiday clubs for young and old.


Job Purpose:
We are now seeking to employ an Interim Children’s Worker ideally from 1st September 2025 (subject to availability and notice period), initially for a period of one year, potentially renewable to see us through the current clergy vacancy (in order to allow for review with our new Rector). We are looking for an enthusiastic and appropriately experienced Christian to support this work and enable it to flourish and grow. This will require a significant involvement on Sundays and midweek, in a range of activities with children and their parents and carers, who under God, form an important, valuable and strategic part of our mission to our Furzedown community.

The Interim Children’s Worker will be someone with a real heart for working with children and their parents/carers and will be fully committed to the church’s work in ministry and mission. With this in mind, they will be able to demonstrate how their present life experience fits them well for this new role. The successful candidate will be a committed Christian with a living faith in Jesus and a good biblical knowledge. They will also have a passion to learn more and to continue growing in spiritual maturity and experience.

Job Description:
The work will involve up to 24 hours/week, primarily in term-time, paid at an hourly rate based on the current London Living Wage, updated from 1 January 2026. The exact role description and hours will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Accommodation will not be provided.
