Hannah

In this session on Old Testament Heroes of the Bible, we are going to hear about a woman called Hannah. Hannah really wanted a child of her own but years went by and nothing happened, until one day when she went to pray at the temple. Let’s watch the video and see what happened:

Time to Think and Pray

Questions

  • Why did the other mothers make fun of Hannah? Why were they mean to her?

  • How did this make Hannah feel?

  • Where did Hannah go to pray?

  • When Hannah was praying, who noticed her?

  • What did Hannah name her baby boy?

  • Where did her son go to live when he was old enough?

Hannah really wanted a child! Years and years went by and she still couldn’t have a baby. The other mothers teased her and were mean to her because of this and it made her very upset. One day she went to pray at the temple. She prayed to God and begged him for a child! She promised that if God gave her a son, she would give him back to God so that he could love and serve God his whole life. The priest, named Eli, noticed her praying and saw how much this meant to her. He prayed that God might give Hannah what she had asked him for. And he did! A little while later, Hannah gave birth to a baby boy and named him Samuel. Hannah was so happy and she thanked God for listening and answering her prayers. When Samuel was old enough, Hannah sent him to live with Eli at the temple so that he could spend his whole life learning about God and loving and serving him.

We can pray to God too! We can talk to him about what is in our hearts, ask him for what we need and thank him for what he gives us. God loves us so much and he loves it when we talk to him.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that no matter where we are or what time of the day it is, we can pray to you! Please help us to remember to pray to you every day so that we can become closer with you. Amen.
