Jesus and his disciples were on a boat when suddenly a terrible storm rolled in. The disciples were terrified! They were scared that the boat would sink and they would drown. They went to find Jesus but he was asleep! Jesus wasn’t afraid. They couldn’t believe that Jesus was sleeping through the storm. They woke Jesus up and asked him, “Don’t you care if we drown?” but Jesus replied, “Don’t you have any faith?” Jesus got up and commanded the storm to stop. The rain stopped and the wind and the waves calmed down! The disciples were amazed! Jesus is the Son of God and his power is so amazing that nothing is impossible for him. He can heal people, he can walk on water and he can even tell a storm to go away! Even though storms are very scary, the disciples didn’t need to be afraid because Jesus was with them. They could have faith and trust that Jesus would take care of them.
Jesus is taking care of us too! There are a lot of scary things in the world, but if we follow Jesus and are friends with him, he will always be with us. We never need to be afraid. If we are scared, we can ask Jesus to help us to not be afraid any more. He loves us so much and he wants to help us!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that if we follow you, we don’t ever need to be afraid because you are always with us. When we are scared please help us to trust in you. Help us to love and worship you more and more each day. Amen.
This Week's Crafts: Hungry Sharks and Calming the Storm Spinners
Hungry Shark Craft
You will need: A piece of card or cereal box, scissors, a glue stick, colouring pens or pencils, googly eyes (optional) and a copy of the printable template.
Print a copy of the template and colour in the shark and little fish. Cut out the shark, the circle, and the fish. Stick the shark onto the back of a cereal packet or piece of card and cut it out again. Fold the circle (which is the shark's mouth) in half and cut zig-zags around the edge to make teeth. Now open up your circle and flatten in. Fold each side inwards (not quite to the other side) and stick the sharks mouth onto the head (see photo) leaving room above for the eyes. Stick the little fish (and any other bits and bobs you might have!) inside the shark’s mouth. You now have a very hungry shark!
Calming the Storm Spinner
You will need: Colouring pens or pencils, scissors, a split pin and a copy of the printable template.
Colour in the boat and weather spinner. Cut both templates out. Make a small hole on the black spot in both the middle of the spinner and the boat. Place the spinner behind the boat and put the split pin through both holes and secure at the back. Now you can turn the spinner and change the weather from stormy to calm!
