The Road to Emmaus

We have been learning the true story of Easter and previously we heard how Jesus was arrested and died but that this was all God’s special plan to save us! And Jesus didn’t stay dead – on the third day, he came alive again!  After he rose from the dead, Jesus was walking to a place named Emmaus and saw two of his disciples, but they didn’t recognise him! Let’s watch the video to see what happened:

Time to Think and Pray

Questions

  • Where were the two disciples walking to?

  • What were they talking about?

  • Who came and walked with them?

  • What did Jesus explain to them?

  • How did they find out it was Jesus?

  • When Jesus appeared to all of the disciples, what did he show them?

The same day that Jesus had risen from the dead, two of Jesus’ disciples were walking to a village called Emmaus. Jesus caught up with them and asked them what they were talking about. The disciples were so sad about Jesus’ death that they didn’t recognise him! They talked about the awful things that had happened, but Jesus explained to them about the Old Testament scriptures and how they had predicted that Jesus would die and come alive again. When they arrived at Emmaus, Jesus had dinner with them. As he prayed and broke the bread, their eyes were opened and they suddenly realised it was Jesus! But then he disappeared right in front of them! They both ran all the way back to Jerusalem and found the rest of the disciples. They told them everything that had happened and that Jesus was alive! Suddenly, Jesus appeared among them! He showed them the holes in his hands and feet so they could touch and see for themselves that it was truly Jesus come back to life, not a ghost! They were amazed and praised God!

Jesus died for us and came back to life! This was a miracle that only He could do because he is God. This was all a part of God's special plan to save us. Jesus died and rose again so that we can be forgiven for the wrong things we do and become God's friends and live with him forever in heaven. What amazing news!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving us so much that you died to save us. Thank you that 3 days later you came back to life. Please help us to believe in you and love you more each day. Amen.
