In the last session we started to learn about the true story of Easter. Jesus travelled on a donkey to Jerusalem for the Passover festival and the crowd welcomed him like a King! They waved palm branches and sang praises to him. But Jesus knew that this would all end soon and that there were soldiers waiting to arrest him. Jesus had come to save us, and this meant that he had to die. In this true story from the Bible, Jesus sits down to have his last meal with his disciples. Let’s watch the video to see what happened:

Time to Think and Pray
Questions
-
When the disciples sat down to have dinner together, what unexpected thing did Jesus do?
-
Why did Jesus wash his disciples’ feet? What was he trying to teach them?
-
What did Jesus say as he broke the bread?
-
What did he say as he took the cup of wine?
-
Why did Jesus say this? What did He want His friends to remember?
-
Who was going to betray Jesus?
Even though Jesus is God and king of the whole world, he washed his friends' feet! This would usually be a servant’s job, not a king’s. But Jesus loved his disciples and he wanted to show them how they should treat others. We should love and care for other people just as Jesus does.
Jesus then sat down to spend his last supper with his friends and he showed them how they could remember him after he had gone, by eating bread and dranking wine together. When we do this in our church services we call it 'communion’. Jesus knew that soon Judas would betray him and he was going to die but this was all part of his plan to save us. It was why He had come. Jesus was willing to be betrayed and die, so that we could be forgiven for the wrong things that we do, become God’s friends and live in heaven with Him forever. He loves us so much!
We are going to hear the final part of the true Easter story next week!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this story of the last supper with your friends and for showing us how we can remember you through Communion. Thank you that you love us so much, you were willing to die so that we could be forgiven and become your friends. Please help us to remember you and everything you have done for us this Easter time. Amen.
